Our towns have been busy, the cafes full and judging by the amount of traffic passing through the region, it would suggest we are experiencing one of our busiest summer periods.
From our world class mountain bike trails, to hiking, and fishing in some of the country’s most pristine waterways, the Snowy Monaro is the place to be this summer.
We know our region is home to many exciting events. This week, the 2019 Australian Water Ski Speed and Marathon Championships are being held on Lake Jindabyne. Council is pleased to support this event and we welcome all competitors and spectators.
Racing commenced on Tuesday, and will continue to Friday, January 11. The best spot to take in all the action is from Banjo Paterson Park, near the Strzelecki Monument.
Throughout our towns and villages, we are fortunate to have many hard working individuals and community groups. Whether it’s in sport, arts and culture, the environment, or staging community events, it’s important we recognise those who make our region the great place it is to live.
Australia Day Awards are one way we thank those tireless volunteers, and this year, I encourage you to nominate someone or a group you think deserves an award.
Nominations have been extended until Friday, January 11, and forms can be found online at council’s website, or at any council office. It’s not too late to put forward someone who would be a worthy recipient of such an award.
Have you been enjoying a swim this season? The weather has certainly been favourable for a dip.
Adaminaby, Berridale and Bombala swimming pools are free this summer, and by all reports, local families have been making frequent use of these recreational facilities.
