Starting on October 8, the work has been taking place along Wallaga Lake Rd from the Cobargo-Bermagui Rd turnoff to the Bermagui Public School.
On Wednesday, December 19, a spokesperson for Bega Valley Shire Council said the project was “very near completion”, with the kerb, gutter and stormwater upgrade, pavement stabilisation and line marking all finalised.
Some line marking of Wallaga Lake Rd from George St to Wapengo St, as well as driveway reconstruction work, will be completed in the New Year.
The pavement stabilisation work suffered minor delays due to rain, but the council spokesperson said they did not expect any issues due to extra traffic on the road over the holiday period.
“Although it is not ideal to have these rain events towards the completion of construction, we do not anticipate any issues with the completed project,” the spokesperson said.
“There has been some minor disturbance to the completed seal in the clean-up of debris after the storm.”
Overall, the project included about 700metres of kerb and gutter construction as well as stormwater upgrade work on Wallaga Lake Road from George St to South Tilba Rd.
There was also 2.8km of pavement stabilisation from the Cobargo Rd intersection to Wapengo St in Bermagui, and delineation upgrade work at the Cobargo Rd intersection including additional signage, line marking as well as guardrail and kerb installation to improve safety.
