The day started with tea and scones at the RSL Club as local students assisted in a display of WWl memorabilia and several Eden Marine High School students were dressed in costume of the 1914-18 period.

Before long there was a large crowd gathering at the Merimbula War Memorial. They paused in silence to remember those who had lost their lives in conflicts and also those still serving in conflicts around the world.
President of the RSL sub-Branch Allan Browning read the Ode and The Last Post was sounded as everyone stood to reflect and remember.
Mr Browning said he had plagiarized his address from one by Paul Keating at the tome of the Unknown Soldier in 1993, saying although he is unknown, he is always among those we honour.
“He is one of us,” Mr Browning said.
There was a pause as pilot John Moffatt flew over in his bi-plane.
Speaker from Lumen Christi, student Philippa Keogh said that despite WWl being “the war to end all wars we still use wars to end conflicts”.
“My generation is very conscious of those fallen from numerous countries and from all sides and the pain of human loss is common,” Philippa said.
Sean Fitzpatrick from Eden Marine High School said it was important that we all take a small amount of time to recognise the efforts and the courage that they had. We’re 100 years ahead but we still look back at these times,” Sean said.
There were many wreaths laid on behalf of local clubs and service organisations.
At the end of the service Jemima Moodie sung the New Zealand and then the Australian anthem.
