As part of the NSW Government’s Heritage Near Me Local Strategic Project funding, the heritage of the old Imperial Hotel will be restored, with the funding to be used to fix up the hotel’s veranda.
“This project will give the Imperial Hotel a terrific makeover, while ensuring the heritage of the building remains the focal point,” Mr Barilaro said.
“We know how important and valued the heritage and history of Bombala is, and supporting one of the town’s most treasured buildings is an important task.
“It is clear that this restoration will have flow on effects for the broader town and region.”
Mr Barilaro said together with the recently announced $250,000 grant to boost small business in Bombala through the Bombala and District Chamber of Commerce, the restoration will enhance the main street and be a welcomed project.
Owner of the Imperial Hotel, Steve Burton-Jones said the funding announcement will help preserve one of Bombala’s historic hotels.
“The funding will be used to fully restore the hotel’s veranda, which is a major part of the hotel and once restored, will be a beautiful sight, ensuring the Imperial Hotel remains as an important part of Bombala,” said Mr Burton-Jones.
“My partner Virginia worked tirelessly on the application for this funding before passing away a few months ago. I know she would be so happy to receive this grant.”
Under the Heritage Near Me Local Heritage Strategic Projects fund, priority is given to projects that are collaborative and multi-disciplinary, support long term sustainability through the transfer of skills, knowledge and experience, address an identified community need, and increase awareness of local heritage values.
