The 4th annual Bega Cheese Emergency Services Golf Day is calling all emergency services and armed service personnel both past and present to register for the event at the Pambula-Merimbula Golf Club on November 2.
The event has been very successful, raising $21,000 last year for Nardy House in Quaama which is a 24-hour service providing specialised respite care for children and adults with profound physical disabilities.
The event has a three year goal to raise $50,000 to help the facility enter its next stage of development which is to build a heated hydrotherapy pool.
“It is a very worthwhile cause that doesn’t get a lot of attention. It will be the second year we have supported them, we hope to raise $20,000,” Sergeant Cliff Scarlett of Merimbula Police said.
“Nardy House will be the main beneficiary but in memory of the late Mick Horne we are also establishing a perpetual scholarship with the worthy recipient to be selected by Mel and Tom Horne.”
It’s not about golf, it is about fun, it’s about having a crack, having a laugh and a beer
- Sergeant Cliff Scarlett
There will be numerous novelty events on the day such as furthest from the pin, chipping competitions and other special awards and events sponsored by local businesses.
“It’s not about golf, it is about fun, it’s about having a crack, having a laugh and a beer,” Sergeant Scarlett said.
But wait, there’s more… if you are not a golfer but love your cricket, then no worries because Merv Hughes will be there on the day bringing plenty of banter and funnies to share.
On Thursday night before the golf day, there’s a special opportunity to have a beer and something to eat with the cricket legend himself. There are limited tickets at a cost of $75 for the Memorable Night With Merv at Vicolo.
“Spots for both events are running out fast so don’t leave it to the last second or you will be disappointed,” Sergeant Scarlett said.
“If anyone is unable to come to the day and would like to donate, including businesses who would like to offer something on the day please get in touch.”
