Current and former officers joined family and community members for a National Police Remembrance Day ceremony inside Bega’s St. John's Anglican Church.
South Coast Police District Chief Inspector Peter Volf, who had recently attended the funeral of a close friend and colleague, spoke of the “sacrifice” made by his “fallen comrades” during his career.
“Today is about recognising the contribution to society by police,” he said.
“We must keep that in our minds at all times while we continue to do what we do.”
The service was made even more somber with the recent tragic death of 54-year-old former Traffic and Highway Patrol Command member Mick Horne in June.
