This year’s tour ambassadors Wayne Harris – Melbourne Cup winning jockey of 1994 and renowned racing journalist Keith Hillier shared their stories and cup experiences.
“The tour brings so much joy to people who have never been able to get to the Melbourne Cup, or might not ever be able to,” Mr Harris said.
“When we visit aged care homes and hospitals it really brings you down to earth. Especially after being as sick as I have, it is such a great feeling to bring joy to their faces.”
Mr Harris has attended eight cup tours and said his time on the Sapphire Coast has been “unreal”.

“The Sapphire Coast Turf Club have really made me feel so welcome, and it has been great getting in touch with some familiar faces as well as meeting new ones,” he said.
The Cup, made from 44 pieces of hand-beaten 18-carat gold valued at an impressive $200,000 will continue its tour to the Tathra Beach Bowling Club tonight where the public is invited to join in for dinner, drinks and guest speakers.
Tomorrow the cup will make an appearance at the Bega Cheese Factory and Heritage Centre for morning tea, which will begin at 10.30am.
