On Tuesday, I had the pleasure of attending the official opening of the renovated Nimmitabel Country Women’s Association rooms.

The opening also coincided with the 90th birthday of the Nimmitabel CWA.
I joined Member of the Legislative Council Bronnie Taylor, CWA members and the community for the opening.
The Nimmitabel branch of the CWA is respected not only in the town, but throughout our region.
I’m pleased this council has partnered with the Nimmitabel CWA to see these renovations come to fruition.
The Nimmitabel branch received $17,703 through round two of the Snowy Monaro Community Grants. These grants were made possible through the NSW government, and contributed $1million into the community.
The renovations include important safety works through upgrades of the electrical and plumbing systems. Air conditioning has been installed, new carpet laid, and the kitchen revamped. Pretty impressive for $17,303.
The renovations are the first significant works to the building since it was opened in 1933. Well done to the Nimmitabel CWA and a very happy 90th birthday.
Cooma residents who receive a kerbside collection will have their new 360L recycling bins delivered this week. The larger bins will allow residents to take full advantage of the comingled recycling system. You will be able to recycle more effectively. If you wish to retain your current 140/240L recycling bin, please contact Council.
I would like to reassure residents that their recyclables are not going to landfill. The recyclables are transported and processed at the ReGroup Materials Recovery Facility in Hume, ACT.
Council has secured a $75,000 grant to help boost weed surveillance in the Snowy Monaro.
The grant will allow council to purchase a drone, and train staff to operate it.
This will assist in mapping and controlling Hawkweed incursion.
Hawkweed is highly invasive, and this project is taking an important step in preventing its spread.
