Basil Sellers Art Prize
Entries are now open for the prestigious Basil Sellers Art Prize, which will this year accept entries from artists from across NSW and the ACT. The open contemporary art prize offers a prize pool of more than $25,000, with the $20,000 major prize winner’s work acquired by philanthropist and businessman Basil Sellers and placed in his extensive art collection.
Entries can include 2D works of any medium, excluding photography and digital media. There is no theme but works must have been created in the past 12 months. The prize was established as a biennial event for artists in the Eurobodalla Shire in 2004. In 2010 the exhibition extended its reach to include entries from the Bega Valley, Cooma Monaro, Bombala and Snowy River shires. It has since been established as one of the region’s most prestigious art events, and this year for the first time has been expanded to include artists living across NSW and the ACT.
The exhibition’s opening in February 2019 will coincide with the opening of the new Basil Sellers Exhibition Centre, currently being constructed adjoining Moruya Library. For competition guidelines and to enter go to www.esc.nsw.gov.au/artprize. Entries close 4pm Monday 10 September 2018. For more information phone Eurobodalla Council’s Coordinator Creative Arts Development Indi Carmichael on 02 4474 1061 or email Indira.Carmichael@esc.nsw.gov.

BRAWL working bee
Welcome BRAWL members and friends to our September working bee! Arguably, tree planting is the most enjoyable of our working bees! As the weather warms up, it is the perfect time to start planting. This working bee, we are focusing on the high banks and steep slopes near and upstream from the Anabranch.
This section is our missing link and will complete our plantings between the River Reserve and Anabranch. Many of our older plantings in this area have been suffocated by weeds such as Trad, and some areas still require planting out following the bamboo removal. To do this we need many hands, even if you are only able to come for an hour, every little bit adds up to a lot.
Details: Monday, September 3, 9.30am-12.30pm. Meet at the Anabranch picnic area, on Bridge Street, for a quick briefing and safety talk. Wear warm and sun safe clothing, sun hats, closed sturdy shoes. Bring gloves, water bottle, morning tea to share, thermos. Please remember there are no toilets at the site.
Women’s morning tea
Women's morning tea, September 1, 10am at the Tathra Community Hall. Guest speaker will be psychologist Ruth Holt. All are welcome. For more information contact Reverend Stuart Haynes on 0421 170 071.
