The visiting Sea Eagles had taken charge to lead by 20 points at the first break, but the Panthers soon found themselves back in competition to end Tathra’s season 17-15-117 to 9-7-61.
Club veterans Luke Taylor and Troy O’Loghlin did turn in the best efforts for the Sea Eagles in a one and two on the best on ground poll, leading the charge for the Tathra goal-scoring.
Taylor slotted five majors, while O’Loghlin put his name on two.
However, it wasn’t enough as the Panthers fought back through Justin Pilgrim and Sean Smith with the latter dominating the scoreboard up front for the home roster.
Smith kicked five, with Finley Cook adding three and Corey Tucker a double.
The opening quarter had seen immense pressure placed on both teams’ defensive lines as possession swayed wildly end-to-end, but it was Tathra breaking free to lead 25-5 with four goals, while the Panthers could only muster a handful of behinds.
Against a stiff cross-ground breeze, the Panthers rallied in the second quarter to keep Tathra quiet and then surged ahead to lead 90-46 in the third quarter.
Tathra young guns Tom Lipsham, Billy Stubbs, Zac Harlow and Louis Coulton were heavily involved in play as well, but Pambula’s experienced heads prevailed on the day.
The club thanked everyone for their efforts throughout the year, but said it was an unfortunate end to the run for the seniors.
