All six of Bega’s competitive sides will contest either major or minor semi-finals this weekend. Club President Norm Griffin congratulated the teams, coaches and support crews for their efforts in achieving this fantastic result and encouraged the Club as a whole to continue to support each other throughout the finals.
On Saturday Merimbula-Pambula Bulldogs will host the major semi-finals at the Pambula Sporting Complex where four Bega Roosters outfits will vie for a spot in the grand final.
The Bega under 12s are the first off the ranks from 11.30am against the ladder-leading Bulldogs.
One apiece this season, coach Norm Griffin hopes that a reshuffle of the Roosters will see young play makers Rory Deighton, Jasper Kelly and Louis Willington lead the team around the park. However, Norm said there was plenty of talent in the forwards and off the bench for Bega.
Following the Under 12s battle there will be another close encounter, this time between the top two International League Tag sides (13-16 years). While the Bega girls remain undefeated this season, but the Bombala Blue Heelers are playing good footy, says coach Lisa Griffin with Bega needing a massive effort to emulate their last 12-10 victory.
Captain of the Under 14s Bega Roosters, Matt Wheatley, says that his team are “keen as” to face up to a very competitive Narooma side in their clash, which kicks off at 1.30pm. Their two previous encounters have resulted in a 12-10 win to Bega and then a 24-all draw so this game is set to be another thriller.
The final match of the day will see Bega take on a very strong Narooma unit in the Under 16s Major semi. Narooma have only posted one loss this season so Bega will have to be at their best to claim the grand final ticket.
The Minor semi-finals will be played on the Sunday in Narooma with two Bega sides playing in do-or-die matches.
The under 10s will face Batemans Bay, with the Tigers winning both their matches this season, but coach Mark Allman has had his team training twice a week in preparation with play from 9.30am at Narooma’s Bill Smyth Memorial Oval.
The under 12 league-tag girls will face Tathra and coach Melinda Armstrong said finals is a different game and will be looking to big improvers Scarlett Norris, Lydia Weber and Kirstyn Thomas to get involved on the weekend and move their team into the Preliminary finals next week.
Norm encourages everyone to head along and cheer the kids on.
