Essential Energy is investigating the cause of a power outage during a grass fire at Wandella this week.

The company’s regional southern manager Sarah Roche said the company restored power to 61 customers on Tuesday afternoon following an “unplanned power outage”.

“Network protection equipment activated at around 4.45am on Tuesday, August 7, switching off power to customers in the area,” Ms Roche said.

“Crews responded immediately, completed network repairs and restored power to all 61 customers by 1.45pm.

“The Rural Fire Service also attended the scene and extinguished a grass fire at the site.”

An RFS spokesperson said on Tuesday access to the fire had been restricted due to downed power lines across a fence and accessway.
