During book week schools, libraries, booksellers, authors, illustrators and children celebrate Australian children's literature from August 18 – 24.
Ms Sarah can’t wait to visit Tathra, Merimbula and Eden Public School as their special guest author.
Her fast paced sessions at the school’s will encourage students to write, illustrate and perform their stories.
To suit this year’s book week theme – find your treasure, students will create personal treasure maps that begin and end right in their own backyards.
Ms Sarah is best known for her children’s books – 11 picture books and one chapter book for advanced readers.
Many of her stories are set in Wonboyn Lake and Eden, this year she will be releasing a picture book for children called My Mate Old Tom, featuring an Orca with attitude – Old Tom which is a well-known Eden Killer Whale.
“Living at Wonboyn Lake gives me the opportunity to meet locals and winkle family stories out of them,” she said.
“Most people are happy to share unusual and historic stories knowing they will end up in print or on one of the websites I write for.”
As part of book week and family history month Ms Sarah invites local writers to come along and join her at an all day workshop at the Club Sapphire on Saturday, August 18.
Hosted by the South Coast Writers Group, participants will discover a magical story that is right under their very noses – in their own backyards.
The workshop will consist of creating a story from a childhood memory, or a part of your family history.
“We will explore how to craft your story, make it into a picture book, or take it further as a collection of short stories,” Ms Sarah said.
Bring along your happy memories, note pads and pens, and have some fun re-creating a childhood tale to delight both your readers – and yourself. If an old family snapshot helps bring that along too.
Keeping to a local format Ms Sarah will include a “simple guide” for self-publishing and your questions answered about how to make those tentative steps to bring your story to publication in a creative way.
The workshop will take place at Club Sapphire, Merimbula on Saturday, August 18.
Running from 10am – 2.30pm. Writers of the Far South Coast members cost $10, Non-members $15.
