The school held a “walk-a-thon” at the Old Bega Racecourse to raise money to be donated to help families affected by the Tathra fire.
After the walk-a-thon the pupils, teachers and many parents gathered in the shade of the school grounds to hold a “knit-a-thon”, knitting squares that will be made into blankets. The blankets will be given to Mumbulla School families, past and present, who have been affected by the fires.
Reagan White, education manager, was delighted by the pupils’ efforts.
“For a relatively small school of less than 200 students, we are really proud of the hard work the children have put into fundraising,” Ms White said.
“The generosity of their families and friends is a reflection of how the hearts of many have gone out to those affected by this fire. We are so pleased to be able to help the community in this way.”
Last week, Jayden Deighan-Smith and Taylor Williamson from Class 6 presented a cheque for $5642 to the Bega Valley Shire Mayor, Kristy McBain. The mayor congratulated the children and asked them to take her thanks back to the school.
