The day started with the High Heelers taking the field and after receiving the kick off put some early pressure on the Pink Panthers.
It took just seven minutes for the Bombala girls to to get on the board through a great try to Amy Stone and with the conversion waved away, the girls were in front 4-0.
Minutes later the Bombala girls were in again through a try out wide to Jade Crouch who took the score to 8-0 in Bombala’s favour.
Next to score would be Captain Maree Coates who off the kick off evaded defenders to score under the posts and with Kayley Keavey’s successful conversion the girls were now leading 14-0. Just one minute later, Jade Crouch was in for her second try of the day after running a great line to get over out wide, the score now reading 18-0.
Just one minute before half time, Georgie Clarke was able to get over the line and score rounding out the first half 22-0 to Bombala. The second half started well for the Bombala girls when Sam Stewart intercepted the ball running away to score under the posts, and with Maree Coates’ successful conversion the girls were now leading 28-0.
Next to score would be Monique Perkins who saw an opportunity out the left side, and was able to get over the line extending their lead to 32-0. Kayley Keavey successfully converted taking the score to 34-0 to Bombala.
Just one minute later, Georgie Clarke made a break and was able to outrun defenders to score under the posts and with the conversion waved away the score was now 38-0. The girls weren’t finished with their impressive attacking skills yet and in the last five minutes of the game, Maree Coates and Sam Stewart scored great tries to round out the day’s scoring, the Bombala girls running away with the win 46-0.
Points this week were; 3 points and players player went to Sam Stewart (sponsored by Clear Cut Electrical) who is dominating in both attack and defence. 2 points went to Amy Stone (sponsored by Bibbenluke Stockhorse Stud) who is one of our best attacking runners and showed this off in the game today and 1 point went to Jade Crouch (sponsored by Southern Monaro Cattle Dogs) for her hard running with a lot of determination.
Reserves
Reserve grade were next to take the field, still searching for their first win of the season. The day didn’t start well for the Bombala side, finding themselves down 10-0 after just 10 minutes of play.
However this would change in the 24th minute when Luke Jamieson was able to get over the line and score the first points of the day for the Bombala side and with Murray Jackson’s successful conversion the score was now 10-6 to the CBU Panthers.
Next to score for the Bombala side would be new recruit Andrew Joseph and with another successful conversion to Murray Jackson the boys were now 12-10 in front. Unfortunately the boys couldn’t hold onto their lead, with another try to CBU just before half time meaning the boys went into half time trailing 14-12.
The second half didn’t start how the Bombala boys would have liked and an early try to CBU saw them extend their lead to 20-12. Attacking opportunities for the Bombala boys were nullified by CBU, until the 60th minute when an early kick from Murray Jackson for speedster Logan Brownlie saw him get over in the corner and with another successful conversion to Murray Jackson the boys were now down 20-18.
With minutes left on the clock, the CBU Panthers were able to score one last try running out winners 24-18.
It was a great display of football from the Bombala side who continue to build on skills and work together.
Points this week were; Player player Slade Newton for his hard working attitude in defence, 3 points went to Andrew Platts who ran the ball up hard all day and worked tirelessly in defence, 2 points went to Charlie Piesley who guided the boys around the park and 1 point went to Andrew Joseph who is proving to be a great addition to the Bombala side.
Bombala will now look towards next weekend where they will host Moruya in first grade and Tathra in both reserves and ladies. The club invites all supporters to get down to the show ground to show their support for their local football sides. The BDRLFC would like to thank their major sponsor Club Bombala for their continued support.
