Following an extensive judging process focused on the applicants’ commitment to agriculture, leadership impact and potential, plus career aspirations, 14 students have been awarded an AgriFutures™ Horizon Scholarship.
Anna is sponsored by Australian Wool Innovation and will receive $5,000 for her two years of her degree to assist with university study and living expenses, plus access to professional development opportunities including workshops and work placements to kick start her agricultural career.
AgriFutures Australia Managing Director, John Harvey congratulated the students on their success and welcomed the up-and-coming leaders to the AgriFutures™ Horizon Scholarship program.
“We are thrilled to welcome the 2018 cohort, who were selected from a talented pool of over 200 applicants. These students are the future leaders of Australian agriculture and it’s very exciting to have them as part of our AgriFutures™ Horizon Scholarship program.
“Our scholarship program sets a path for students to experience career options they may not otherwise be exposed to, with the specific aim to set the students up for a long and successful career in agriculture,” said Mr Harvey.
Anna, who is studying a Bachelor of Agribusiness at University of New England was thrilled to receive the scholarship and thanked Australian Wool Innovation who will support her Horizon journey.
“It’s an honour to receive the scholarship, not only will it open doors and connect me with industry professionals, but I will gain valuable experience in the wool industry.
“I’m excited to meet other students involved in the program, learn more about the challenges and trends across the agricultural sector and how I can make a positive impact on the future of Australian agriculture.”
All students on the AgriFutures™ Horizon Scholarship program will attend a four day workshop in Wagga Wagga NSW in July, focused on leadership and personal development, underpinned by the theme of “Game Changers”. The workshop will feature special guest speakers, industry experts, field trips and the opportunity to network, meet sponsors and discuss innovations and challenges in the agricultural sector.
