A win streak spanning 19 straight games has come to a close after the Roosters remarkably fought from a 14-4 deficit at half-time to reel back a stunning 40-24 result.
The stunning second half turnaround capped off a superb day for the tri-colours, who claimed five from five on the day.
“It was a really good day for us, five games – five wins – everyone was delighted after that one,” club spokesman David Armstrong said.
The Roosters had a "little bit disappointing” start against the Cooma Stallions, but surged out of the blocks in the second half to completely shut the mountain men out of the contest.
“We were a little bit disappointed with the first half," Mr Armstrong said. “But from the whistle in the second half we just completed our sets and scored four tries before they even got the ball back.
“We just blew them away."
It was a flurry of four-pointers as Bega’s speed man showed the way.
Will Picker had claimed the opening four pointer in the first half, but it was Scott Fuller and Hayden Parbery sharing in two tries apiece in the second half.
They were also joined by Scott Galeano who landed a try off the opening set from the restart.
The Stallions had fronted up in much the same way as previous years, a lumbering forward pack that is hard to stop.
Mr Armstrong said the Bega quicks certainly “gave away a lot of weight” in comparison to their Cooma counter-parts, but the tri-colours were able to match strength and speed to hold the visitors at bay in the second half.
Another highlight of the day was two consecutive wins to the Bega Chicks, who contested play against the Pink Panthers and the Cooma Fillies.
The Chicks downed the Pink Panthers 26-10, while holding out a late fight-back from the Fillies to cling on to a 14-12 result in the second game.
“They’ve been training hard and it was good to see the girls get some rewards from the efforts they put in during the pre-season.”
He commended the efforts of Ray and Ali Ringland coaching and training the women’s side.
Mr Armstrong said given how close the season will be – with Moruya back to form, and Narooma and Batemans Bay shooting to all new strengths – it was key to win games at home.
“You have to win home games, if we can put on the points at Bega and then jag some results away, it’s just a matter of backing up each week,” he said.
The Roosters have been fronting up as one big wall of players on a united front and Mr Armstrong said it boiled down to great club camaraderie and shared training sessions on Tuesday.
The reserve grade Roosters are also providing great depth for the club.
