It seems like TV coverage rarely strays from the pool, or when it does you won’t see an event unless there is an Australian ‘medal hopeful’ in contention.
And it’s not just the current Commonwealth Games, but it’s an increasing trend during the summer Olympics too – even the Winter Games is starting to tunnel in only on our competitors.
Like most Aussies I enjoy seeing the green and gold do well, but – call me unpatriotic if you wish – I want to see other events, too.
The weightlifting, the pole vault, discus and some of the other track and field events.
And not just the track and field, I mean I don’t think I’ve seen a cycling event at the Olympics covered on TV since about 2004.
Give us some variety!
Yes, we know the Aussies can do good in the pool, but sporting fans around the country also want to see events we’re not in, we want variety.
Give us some of the velodrome, some of the running, shooting or archery, heaven forbid they show us the lawn bowls.
It seems to me the entire point of the Games is embracing all sports.
If I have to watch more 24-hour rolling coverage of the pool, I might just throw myself in one.
