The uncapped leg-spinner has been named in an extended 13-man squad alongside fellow rising star Jarrod Freeman for the Tasmanian outfit against the Blues.
Wright is rookie-contracted with the Tigers and made his List A debut with the Cricket Australia XI in the JLT One Day Cup.
The leg-spinner has played four Futures League games this season and currently sits seventh on the wicket-takers’ list with 14 scalps at 29.07.
He also played three matches at Futures League level last season which yielded nine wickets at an average of 24.78.
But it’s not just Wright’s bowling figures that catch eyes of selectors, he’s proven pretty handy with a bat too.
“I aim to be an all-rounder and I feel I can contribute to the team in not just one aspect,” Wright previously said in an interview with Cricket ACT as part of the development pathway.
He averages 30.69 with a top level best of 132 after 18 matches in the national championships.
“I think i really try and hone both parts of my game as well as my fielding so I can maximise my participation,” he said.
He also played a tour match with a CA XI against England and has a series of highlights under his belt for a rising young star.
Wright is on a rookie contract with the Tigers and has continued to develop his brand of leg-spin at the Tasmanian club.
“I think there is definitely a spot opened up for a quality leg-spinner – it’s something I love working on, I hope to keep pushing that forward and bowl leg-spin at a high level,” he said.
Having got a taste of Big Bash league with some of the sport’s all-time greats, Wright said a key aspect for him was taking on board the advice of players.
“I like taking on that advice so I can improve my game, i love the challenge and being pushed out of my comfort zone.
“I like to emulate those top level players and how they go about their business so I could one day get to that stage.”
Both Freeman and Wright are bursting at the seams for a chance to play in one of the top domestic competitions.
The Tasmanian roster is sitting second on the Sheffield Shield ladder currently and looking for another win over the Blues.
The Tasmanian Tigers will take on the Blues at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground from Saturday at 10.30am.
If given the chance to play it won’t be Wright’s first visit to the SCG, but could certainly provide a springboard for the former Merimbula Knight.
