On Friday, February 16, Dr Kelly visited the school to congratulate Jade for creating the winning Christmas card design he distributed to friends, family and colleagues over the holiday season.
He showed the card to her classmates and pointed out the reasons he selected her design.
Dr Kelly was particularly fond of the inclusion of the Bega Cheese Factory, the Snowy Hydro power station and a whale tail coming out of the water to represent the Eden coastline.
The bright colours used to represent all of these icons of the Eden-Monaro region also led Dr Kelly to choose Jade’s image.
“You can feel yourself cheering up just by looking at it,” he said.
Jade made the card as part of a class activity in November last year.
Dr Kelly told Jade the card had been sent all over the country and even overseas.
“I’m a little bit surprised that so many people have seen it, but it makes me proud,” Jade said.
The other winner of Dr Kelly’s Christmas card competition was Campbell Crain of Tumbarumba Public School.
