It is anticipated the tree on the corner of Bombala and Sharp Streets will be removed this week, in time for Australia Day celebrations in the park.
Council will engage a contractor to carry out the work with construction fencing to be erected under the tree’s canopy to prevent access to the site.
Council has been monitoring the elm for a number of years and following changes to the tree in recent months, its removal has been recommended for safety reasons.
Council recognises that trees are a major asset to the Snowy Monaro region. While trees do make a significant contribution to the character of our towns and villages, Council’s primary consideration is public safety.
