This is the public’s chance to get up close to the cycling action during the various stages dotted across SA, with each ride route providing ideal spectator viewing spots.
The Barossa continues to provide perfect road conditions for both female and male cyclists once again shining a huge international spotlight on the area.
This first to race through the region is the Women’s Stage 2 finish on Friday, January 12, followed by the Men’s Stage 1 finish on Tuesday, January 16.
In addition, part of Stage 4, which includes the Bupa Tour Challenge on Friday, January 19, will visit the region.

Explore the stages
The People’s Choice Classic Stage is a circuit based in the heart of Adelaide and acts as a prelude to the UCIWorldTour race. Ultimately it’s a chance for people to become a tourist in the city and casually ride through parklands that surround the business hub.
The Women’s Tour Down Under peloton race is held across four stages, the first begins on Thursday, January 11, with Stage 4 finishing on Sunday, January 14. Click here to view all the stages and route maps.
Stage 2 of the Women’s TDU: Friday, January 12.
Start: 10.30am – Lyndoch . Finish: 1.25pm – Mengler’s Hill. Race distance: 102km.
The Men’s Tour Down Under this year celebrates it’s 20th anniversary and will once again travel over 800km through Adelaide and regional SA.
Stage 1 Tuesday, January 16.
Start: 11am – Port Adelaide. Finish: 2.41pm – Lyndoch. Ride distance: 145km.
Cyclists will wind their way up to the wine region, and travelling through Williamstown, Lyndoch, Sandy Creek and Cockatoo Valley before the race finish in Lyndoch’s main drag.
Stage 2 – Wednesday, January 17.
Start: 11am – King William Road Unley. Finish: 3.11pm – Mount Barker Road, Stirling. Ride distance: 148.6km.
Stage 3 – Thursday, January 18.
Start: 11am – Colley Terrace, Glenelg. Finish: 2.53pm – Esplande Victor Harbor. Ride distance: 146.5km.
Stage 4 – Friday, January 19.
Start: 11.30am – The Parade, Norwood. Finish: 3pm – Green Hill Road, Uraidla. Ride distance: 128.2km.
Stage 4 also combines the Bupa Challenge Tour which further enables cycling enthusiasts putting their skills to the test from Norwood to Uraidla, just hours before the professionals tackle the stage.
This year’s Bupa Challenge will further visit the region to include towns Mount Torrens, Birdwood and Mount Pleasant. It will also include a Bupa Mini Tour for Kids and a Bupa Family Ride
Stage 5 – Saturday, January 20.
Start: 11.10am – Main Road, McLaren Vale. Finish: 2.58pm – Brookman Road, Willunga Hill.
Stage 6 – Sunday, January 21.
Start: 1.30pm – King Williams Street, Adelaide circuit. Finish: 3.30pm. Ride distance: 90km.
This is the final stage of the Santos Tour Down Under and will see the peloton race through the streets of Adelaide on this fast-paced 4.5km circuit before 2018 UCI WorldTour season is crowned.
Along with the tour will be a heap of event hosted by in the city and SA towns for people to further participate in or explore.
