East Lynne has that honour all wrapped up in a delicious flaky pastry – according to Tim the Yowie Man.
The Canberra-based writer is known for investigating all kinds of mystery phenomenon around the region, but has turned his attention to something else round and flaky, other than crop circles and ghosts.
“I’m so obsessed with pies that I’ve made a 15 minute doco just on eating my way through the South Coast,” Tim said.
“It doesn’t only showcase the best pies of the South Coast to a stringent judging format but also some of the great scenery to entice people to hit the ‘pie trail’!”
The full 15-minute episode goes live YouTube today, Friday, December 1 and on Saturday, December 2, the winning bakery will be supplying 100 free chunky beef pies to the first 100 people who walk into the store and announce what secret ingredient, which is revealed in the episode.
So just why did the East Lynne Pies get the nod from Tim as the top meat pie of the coast?
Well he informs us that all the pies were judged on three criteria – crust, filling and value for money.
“The East Lynne pies scooped the pool on all three criteria,” Tim said. “The crust was delightful and fluffy, the filling was tasty and the beef was really high quality. You could eat three of their pies and still want more.”
And Tim reckons all of us on the South Coast are really lucky when it comes to our meat pies.
“There is no shortage of fantastic pies on the coast and it hard to find a loser,” he said.

“Those East Lynne pies are definitely a man-made wonder,” he said.
