The rain started on Friday night with more than 40mm of rain falling overnight continuing through to Saturday morning.
Bombala Bike Show committee president, Darren Cotterill said the committee made the call to cancel around 10.30am on Saturday morning after a number of store holders and food van’s packed up and moved out.
“It wasn’t an easy decision to make and pretty much as soon as we called the show off the weather started to improve.
The band Frock’n’Troll were booked and came along to play Friday night.
“It was so wet that we had to put the sides of the truck down, so you couldn’t see them playing,” Mr Cotterill said.
“On Saturday, after we had cancelled and the weather improved we decided to give the punters something to do.
“We decided to do some informal burnouts, they didn’t carry the big prize money, but people enjoyed watching it.
“As the weather continued to improve we whacked on a an informal Show’n’Shine for those that wanted to have a go,” he said.
“The band Rock Or Be Rocked came along on Saturday night and played from 8pm through to midnight.
“The people who were left all seemed to have a really good time,” he said.
The Bombala Bike Show committee still went ahead and drew the winning ticket for the brand new Triumph Thunderbird Storm.
The lucky winner of the Triumph was Jeff Castles from the Queensland Sunshine Coast.
“It wasn’t an easy decision to cancel but we really appreciate the support that everyone gave us,” Mr Cotterill said.
“A lot of people went to a lot of trouble to try to get the show happening and although we lost a bit of money, we’re still in a fairly good financial position and should be able to go ahead with the 2018 Bike Show.”
