With almost 3000 schools across Australia involved on Friday, it has become the country’s largest child safety education day.
Thirteen-year-old Daniel Morcombe disappeared from a bus stop on the Sunshine Coast in 2003.
Daniel’s parents Bruce and Denise created the day to help teach children the skills to stay safe, not just in public but also online.
Ambassador for the day, Melissa Pouliot visited Lumen Christi Catholic College, Bega’s St Patrick's Catholic Primary School and Tathra Public School on Friday with NSW Police officers Donna-Marie Clarke and David Bates.
“It [the day] teaches us how to be safe, and tells us not to talk to strangers, and to tell parents, grandparents or a safe responsible adult what happened,” Tathra pupil Connor Finnegan said.
