Candelo family’s plea for information on missing man

The family of a man missing since Wednesday, is urging anyone who may have seen him to contact police.

Sixty-one-year-old Jerome Willoughby has been missing since leaving a bungalow on his brother’s Candelo property at 10am on October 11.

“We love you, we want you back, we can’t wait to see you,’ Jerome’s sister-in-law Jenny Willoughby said on Thursday while handing out flyers throughout Bega.

He was last seen at 11am on William St in Candelo, walking towards Wolumla.

“He had a discussion at the general store about wanting to buy a ticket to Canberra,” Ms Willoughby said.

“So, we think he may have hitchhiked to Bega.”

Ms Willoughby said Jerome lived in Tathra 20 years ago, and may be recognisable to locals.

“We have good reason to believe he is still in the area,” she said.

“While we’ve been handing out fyers people have recognised him from years ago.”

Jerome is around 173cm tall, thinly built, balding, with shoulder length grey hair and a grey beard, and weighing around 50kg.

He was last seen wearing black baggy pants, a long sleeved crew neck, chequered brow shirt and black sneakers.

“He has a form of dimentia, so he may be lost,” Ms Willoughby said.

“We hope a kind person may have taken him in.”

She said Jerome is approachable and friendly, but may be disoriented, and for anybody who sees him to contact police.

“He is in a very disheveled state, with an unkempt beard and hair,” Ms Willoughby said.

Jerome arrived in Candelo in the early hours of Wednesday morning after being driven by his brother from Sydney Airport following a flight from Perth on Tuesday.

If anybody has seen Jerome or has knowledge of his whereabouts, they are urged to contact Merimbula Police on 6495 1366 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page.
