The couple also took second place in NSW, after they were pipped by Sydney’s Windsor South for excellence in customer service, post office operations, and contribution to local community.
“It’s a lot of hard work,” Ms Alker said after the recent award ceremony in Sydney.
“I pretty much knew we were going to go close, because we’d won awards through the year.
“We are very accepting and supportive of our community.”
With no bank in town, to many residents the space is more than a post office.
“This would have to be one of the main hubs in town,” Mr Alker said.
The couple bought the business just over two years ago and topped the state in last two year’s awards.
“We’re lucky because we are both locals, and customer service is our priority.”
“It’s only fitting that we recognise and celebrate the wonderful service they continue to provide their customers every day, and Tathra Post Office has been at the heart of the local Tathra community,” Australia Post State Manager Christine Walker said.
For Tathra resident Jerry Johnson, the post office has become a home away from home.
“I’ve been coming to the post office since I retired from Bombala in 1987, and it’s my bank because I live across the road,” the 84-year-old said.
“They are very helpful.”
