Last week Snowy Monaro Regional Council placed selected projects under the $14million (allocated from the Stronger Communities Fund) on our website for public comment. These projects were selected from a total pool equalling over $40million. Staff weighted the projects under selected criteria, and then Local Representative Committees spent quite some time assessing and prioritising projects that would benefit the wider community. This scheme gives provision for council assets to be upgraded and the opportunity for new infrastructure to be implemented. The aim is to support projects that make the Snowy Monaro a better and more sustainable place to live. Therefore, it is important that you have a look at proposed list on our website, and provide a submission to council. These projects are for you, so we’d love you to have your say. On Friday I attended the Project O opening, which was initiated by Big hART and received significant funding from the Minister for Women, Michaelia Cash. This project will facilitate a year-long project designed to build confidence in young women in the community - eventually working up to a large scale arts event in the township, which then moves to Canberra. This project will allow Cooma students the opportunity to engage with Canberra audiences and organisations and take part in a national arts project. Ultimately they will be raising awareness about healthy relationships and family violence prevention.
