The Snowy Monaro Regional Council allocated more than $660,000 of state government funding to community projects in round one late last year and this week announced a further $336,563 to take the total to $1million.
Bombala Rotary and the Delegate Progress Association are among the big winners in the latest grants, each the successful recipient of $40,000-plus.
The Rotary Club of Bombala will receive $41,000 for a combined storage facility at the Bombala Sale Yards, while the nurse’s cottage upgrade project at Delegate will receive $43,563.
Other community projects among the funding recipients include the Nimmitabel CWA ($17,303 for room upgrades), Cooma Chamber of Commerce ($23,819 for a regional tourism mobile app), Cooma Country Club ($44,204 for entrance road resealing and environment control upgrade) and Jindabyne Trail Stewardship ($50,000 for signage upgrade and seating installation).
The Stronger Communities Fund of $15million, secured by the council from the NSW state government, effectively has two programs – Community Grants (up to $1million) and Major Projects ($14million).
A dedicated Stronger Communities Fund assessment panel reviewed over 150 applications, received from not-for-profit community groups under two separate rounds, in order to make funding recommendations.
Council was delighted to announce 20 community projects have been successful in gaining funding.
Administrator Dean Lynch said “this scale of grant support for our community groups is a wonderful boost”.
Council is presently working towards finalising project determinations for expenditure of the $14million major project funding.
Member for Monaro John Barilaro said the NSW government’s Stronger Communities Fund allows community groups and council to work together to deliver infrastructure and services that make communities better places to live.
“Local residents and community groups play a vital role in building a stronger community for all,” Mr Barilaro said.
“The work they do and services they provide help make our community a better place to live. Congratulations to the community groups who have received funding from the NSW government and I look forward to seeing how the investments benefit our local community.”
