Coordinator of Bega’s Women's Resource Centre, Gabrielle Powell, visited the campus library on Tuesday to receive the food package.
“We’ve had some families break down in tears when they get the hampers,” Ms Powell said.
“It is difficult for some families to live up to what society expects from them at Christmas.
“We’re also putting 15 hampers together this year and also handing out gift vouchers,”
Ms Powell said the centre is restocking its non-perishable food pantry, which currently does not have enough food to help local families in crisis.
“It makes the place feel more Christmas-y to be giving to the community and TAFE is an integral part of the community,” Bega TAFE campus librarian Madeleine Chaleyer said.
Customer service officer Lea-Anne Scott was all smiles during the handover.
“It’s nice to think of these families getting a treat at Christmas, just like everyone else.” she said.
