Songs like Deliver Me look at the abuses of the Catholic Church and Sophie, written about anorexia, has become an anthem for the families of sufferers.
Her performances are full of anecdotes and stories and were described by one reviewer as "musical stand up".
McEvoy started out in a parallel career of playing in Ireland’s Symphony Orchestra and being a band and session musician for greats including Phil Coulter and Mary Black.
Eventually the need to do her own music won out and she was propelled into orbit by the success of her song and the album Woman’s Heart as well as a US record deal.
Her new album is called Naked Music.
McEvoy is playing at the Cobargo School of Arts Hall on October 30 from 3pm
