Officials said it had been a stellar year for Ken Snowdon of the Bega Men’s Bowling Clubcollecting a series of top awards.
Snowdon started his run winning the club’s singles championship and then combining with Adam Taylor to take out the club major pairs championship.
Recently Snowdon competed in the Champion of Champions singles event at Bega Bowling Club where he defeated top players from around the Bega Valley.
Opponents left in his wake included Eden’s Tony Self, Merimbula’s James Reynolds and Tura’s Larry Seely to snare the championship crown.
Last Saturday Snowdon and Taylor took to the greens at Tura Beach Bowling Club for the Champion of Champion Pairs event.
The duo received a bye in round one then met met Tura's Kevin Allen and Larry Seely in round two. It was a closely contested game with the Bega duo winning by one shot.
On Sunday the pair were back to meet Merimbula's Wayne Taylor and Warren Love for the final.
Snowdon and Taylor took an early lead and were never headed off, Toward the end of the game they held a handy five-shot buffer, but Merimbula hit their straps to level the score.
At the final end, the Bega pairing were a shot in front, but Love drove the jack into the ditch and levelled the score.
A deciding extra end had to be played.
With Merimbula holding the game, Snowdon had one bowl left to play and after careful deliberation he drove and removed Merimbula’s shot bowl cleanly, putting himself and Taylor three shots up.
Love played the final bowl, but was unable to edge Bega’s accuracy.
The pair will now travel to Tuross Head in September to compete in the state playoffs.
Officials believed it to be the first time in history Bega bowlers had taken out both prestigious events.
The club has also been bustling with regular championship rounds in its own competitions.
