“The weather was kind to us and Bombala brought with them scores of past glory with a fanatical band of supporters,” Blair said.
Despite plenty of support, the Roosters secured the points in two of three games as just the league-tag clash went in favour of the visitors.
The Bombala High Heelers are shaping as a competition leader in the women’s series, continuing an unbeaten streak with a 26-10 win over the Bega Chicks.
“The High Heelers were relentless with their tagging and caught Bega napping with some great running resulting in Tash Stewart getting around the defenders to touch down,” Roosters president Garry Arkin said.
Bega responded well, but Joccoaa Rogers lacked support after a promising attack to miss a reply try.
As the High Heelers opened up a bigger lead Madison Parbery struck back for the Chicks, but Kiarna Rodwell put the score right back as she landed a try for the visitors to lead 16-4.
The hosts regained their composure in the second half with Rogers helping put the team back in strike range.
Unfortunately late tries to Sellars and Stewart locked in a 26-10 win.
The reserve grade clash was an excellent showing from Bega’s left-hand attack in an entertaining game to win 42-6.
Despite some big runs from the visiting Bombala side, the Roosters were well represented by left centre Declan Bower-Scott, Jye Britten and Luke and Allan Aldridge.
The Roosters were solid across the park, but Luke and Bower-Scott were unstoppable with scything runs down the left flanks.
The right fringes were also exceptional as Dennis Scott, Jack Griffin and Sean Bateman got in the thick of things.
The headline first grade clash saw a similarly composed Bega squad take control of the game for a gritty, but comfortable 34-0 win.
Arkin said from the opening whistle Bombala looked rejuvenated, parading two Fijian players and putting some hard runs against the hosts.
However, the tri-colours boasted excellent plays of the ball across the park and immense speed, with flanker Craig Dunham putting on a brilliant dash to score the opening points.
Bombala steadied its defence and the game settled into a grind of the forward packs.
Todd Ingram saw cracks in the armour and capitalised off a penalty to burst through the line.
With a good roll on, Dunham posted a pair of quick tries to claim a triple and send the Roosters to a 22-0 lead at the break.
The Roosters stuck to their guns and fought tooth and nail for points in the second half where Scott Fuller and Shawn Bell found the line as James Bower-Scott added the conversion extras.
