“We expected a slower start than we’ve seen,” co-founder Zachary Sequoia of Tathra said this week.
He said the innovative business model he has developed alongside Greigs Flat local Dan Tarasenko as seen an explosion of interest from consumers and producers.
“We had 90,000 page views in a week after we launched in Sydney, started offering lamb and were featured on SBS’s The Feed and ABC news,” he said.
“We’re completing a campaign every day now in Sydney when we were expecting it to be every two weeks, so the whole business development side went on hold.”

The pair now have over a thousand customers signed up and have logged 1600 registrations of interest from Perth to Brisbane.
They launched the company in mid-February this year with the aim to crowdfund whole animals bought directly from local producers, butchered and then divided between 12 buyers before being home delivered to consumer’s doorsteps.
They have also been approached by industry sectors not related to farming interested in the crowdfunding platform, as well as potential franchise options in New Zealand.
“With the white label version of our software engine you can really sell anything,” Mr Sequoia said.
“The software is perfect for adding a community element to what would have otherwise have been individual purchases.”
The idea is what Sequoia calls a “digital co-op” and it is quickly catching on with consumers and turning the heads of Australian investors.
Their Melbourne launch is only weeks away and in preparation they have brought in butchers from Victoria to cut the meat closer to the consumer.
The duo have also been approached to be an integral part of this year’s Regional Innovation Week.
“We will be speaking about how to get your idea out there and actually get it started and off the ground,” Mr Sequoia said.
