The original sculpture of Snowy River Brumbies was first unveiled in Delegate in 2010 after it was commissioned by the Delegate township in 2006 for $43,800. Unfortunately the materials used were untested and the heavy Monaro frosts took its toll on the sculpture and it was removed.
Mr Wright’s daughter Bronwyn Wright decided to replace the sculpture with one cast in bronze to honour both her father and the community who raised the money for the original one.
Ms Wright said a lot of research was involved to solve the problem of a replacement.
“I paid a 3D specialist to do scans of Rix's original Marquette,” Ms Wright said.
From the 3D file a pattern maker made a larger version in polystyrene that was later cast in bronze.
“Actually having it cast in bronze was the shortest period of time of a long process, but it was the most expensive stage,” Ms Wright said.
The new bronze sculpture was made, delivered and installed by Ewen Coates of Coates Foundry with Bronwyn’s brother Rowan Wright helping to install it in time for the Sunday’s Men from Snowy River commemorative march.
