Design is nearing completion for the reservoir which will be constructed on Bega Valley Shire Council-owned land off Nutleys Creek Rd.
The reservoir will also allow for a 50 per cent increase in water pressure to the higher areas of Bermagui.
It will enable selected extraction of water from the Brogo River to avoid pumping during floods and maximises the use of off-peak pumping opportunities to reduce operation costs.
Preliminary works will commence this month, including access track improvement and clearing of the site including some tree removal.
The clearing of trees will be carried out by tree removal specialist, with much of the cleared material being mulched for erosion protection and landscaping on the site.
Tenders will be called for the reservoir construction which is scheduled to take place between March and December of 2016.
Council will minimise disruption due to the work by imposing speed limit reductions where required.
