This was one of many photos found by Mr Rheinberger and Bob Westmacott for the centenary of the Bega District Hospital.
It had been thought this was the official opening, but the new photo reveals it was actually the opening to the brick extension on the western end of the hospital.
So once again, members of pioneer families are asked to check out the faces for someone from their photo albums.
If they do find an ancestor they can contact Claire Lupton, Capturing the Memories project, on clairelupton@bigpond.com or 6492 2570.
Plans are well underway for the first of Bega spring festivals, the Raise the Roof, Old Bega Hospital Spring Festival for Sunday, October 25.
Historic detective work
AN eagle-eyed reader also spotted last week’s photo was not of the hospital’s official opening.
Andrew Hutton posted on the Bega District News Facebook page that the hospital was completed on January 19, 1889, and opened on April 18, 1889, by Mr RL Tooth of Kameruka.
“In the photo everyone is dressed in winter clothes, so it must have been more like winter when it was taken,” Mr Hutton said of the old photo.
Does anyone know more?
