About 30 kids lined up to take part in the clinic, which provided some fun challenges to develop hand-eye coordination and footwork.
“I haven’t been able to get back to Bega in a couple of years, but the kids are great and they have a lot of fun without realising they’re learning as well,” Pettitt said after the clinic.
The recently named Australian Diamonds member is also an ambassador, and advocate, for the junior NetSetGo program, which boosts skills in kids between eight and 12.
“NetSetGo is a great program and I think you can start to the see the positives of it now as girls are getting older and working at those skills,” she said.
“There was a big gap early on where kids weren’t getting those skills.
“There is a lot to learn in netball and if we can get them early so that they learn it all without developing any bad habits is an excellent thing.”
Pettitt said she took pride in being able to give one on one attention to players in smaller clinics and that the kids who took part were “so cute”.
“It’s great to teach them, they’re all so cute…it’s such a hard job,” she said with a laugh.
Pettitt has already been named in the preliminary line-up for the NSW Swifts next year and will juggle training with leading clinics in the coming months.
She has also been named in the Australian Diamonds and as a back-up in the World Cup squad.
Running clinics and training keeps the star busy, but Pettitt said she likes it that way.
“You have something to work for in the next season, you’re always juggling work commitments and training so it feels pretty normal to me,” she said with a laugh.
