While the mercury tried its hardest to reach zero on Sunday morning - 0.2C at Cobargo by some reports - the sun shone brightly on the river banks as the day warmed up.
The community was greeted by a stirring performance from Stonewave Taiko, before emcee Jen Hunt introduced Aunty Colleen Dixon, who gave the Welcome to Country on behalf of the Djiringanj people.
Also making official presentations were Bega Valley Shire Mayor Michael Britten, Member for Bega Andrew Constance and Vickie Goldsmith from the Bega River Wetlands and Landcare group (BRAWL).
The community had been invited to enjoy Bega River Day as a way of celebrating the extensive - and ongoing - work to rehabilitate the river as well as explore the pathway that now runs from the Bega Bridge all the way through to Tarraganda Bridge.
The path was seeing plenty of use on Sunday as every man and his dog was out enjoying the brisk but beautiful autumn morning.
As well as Stonewave, visitors were treated to a tai chi demonstration, various community group information stalls, a history talk, guided tours of Spenco Lagoon and tree planting.
Meanwhile, at the Old Bega Racetrack, dog agility trials, the Bega Disitrct Band and kids' activities were keeping everyone entertained.
