The three councils undertook the business case as part of the Fit for the Future process that will ultimately decide the future of the councils and determine whether or not they should be amalgamated.
The Bombala Council is also in the process of developing with consultants a stand alone rural council business case.
Once both business cases come to hand, the Council will hold another public meeting to communicate the findings to the community, asking for opinions on how Council should proceed in making an application to the Office of Local Government by June 30.
Once the submission is made it goes to the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) for assessment and it is required to advise the NSW government on its findings by October 16, 2015.
Snowy invite
With the Snowy River Shire Council also entrenched in the Fit for the Future process, anyone throughout our own district interested is invited to a moderated panel forum to discuss the options for SRSC.
Council values the community’s input and wishes to present the findings of the two business
cases that have been received regarding its ability to stand alone or whether it should
merge with Cooma Monaro and Bombala Councils.
These reports can be technical at times so the Council is hosting moderated panel sessions in each Snowy River town.
The three main outcomes for the panel sessions will be to provide information to the
community, listen to feedback and importantly be available to answer questions.
The panel will be hosting a daytime forum at the Berridale Hall on Saturday, May 30 from
3pm-5pm for those who cannot attend on a weekday evening.
The remaining forums will be held at the respective local community town halls from
6.30pm-8.30pm as follows: - Adaminaby: Monday 1 June; Jindabyne: Tuesday 2 June;
Dalgety: Wednesday 3 June.
“Whether we stand alone or merge with our neighbours, there are difficult decisions to be
made. I cannot impress enough on the community that future generations will rely on the
decisions we are faced with right now,” said Council’s General Manager, Joseph
Vescio.
To attend please RSVP by Wednesday, May 27 to: records@snowyriver.nsw.gov.au Subject:
FFTF Forum RSVP, and advise which session and how many people will be attending. Both business cases are now available on council’s website.
