Acting regional manager South Eastern, Tony Ryan, said that asset inspections identified ageing
network infrastructure in the town and a project was instigated to ensure its timely replacement.
“Crews from Bombala and Cooma depots will replace the transformer located in Therry Street that supplies power to most of the Bombala CBD along with associated high and low voltage underground cabling,” Tony said.
“A temporary alternate source of power will be installed in a car parking space in the main street to supply power to the CBD for the week, while the work is completed.”
The alternate power source will be put in place on Monday, April 27 and removed Friday, May 1, with the upgrade work being completed on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, the 28th, 29th and 30th of April.
Residents and businesses may notice an increase in work vehicles and noise levels in the area during the project.
Temporary changes to parking and pedestrian traffic arrangements on Maybe Street will apply at this time to ensure public and crew safety.
Planned power supply interruptions will be necessary to allow Essential Energy to isolate the transformer and cabling to be replaced and allow crews safe access to complete the work.
A planned power supply interruption will occur on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 between 7.45am and
8.15am, while customers are switched to the alternate power source, and another will occur on Friday, May 1, 2015 between 7.45am and 8.15am, while customers are switched back to normal mains supply.
The supply interruptions will affect customers in parts of Maybe, Caveat, Forbes, Therry, and Badgery Streets.
All customers to be affected by planned power supply interruptions have been provided with advanced notification by Essential Energy.
“Essential Energy thanks the local community for its patience while we work to improve electricity supply to Bombala,” Tony said.
