The great Community Challenge has been conquered - 2,000 poppies created to mark the Centenary of Anzac! Wonderful, amazing, exciting for all involved!
The challenge started at 1,000 poppies, then Arthur said, "we can do better than that, why not 2,000?", and so it came to be.
There were times we thought we couldn't reach the number, but as we worked on more workers came along, more took petals home to work on and we all got quicker with the process.
At each working bee we gave ourselves little challenges to finish off so many each day we met - this started with 50 the first day then 100, 150, 200 and so on till the last day we finished off 300 in one and a half hours!
We gratefully mention those who took home petals to cut out, petals to curl and then glue. There were a group who glued up 100 poppies each Friday for four weeks. All this assisted to get them to the final stage.
The idea of the challenge is to fill the garden beds at the Bombala Cenotaph corner with red poppies, together with a waterfall of red flowing over for this year’s very special Anzac Day.
Thanks to Cosmo - Arthur, Dina and staff for distributing, collecting and allowing us the use of their Cafe on occasions when we weren't at the RSL Club.
Some 56 people became involved in this project and to all we say a big, big thank you!
