FSC director of lifesaving Andrew Edmunds said nothing had been found by either lifesavers or police and he suspected it may have been a false alarm.
Mr Edmunds said police would continue to investigate the matter.
UPDATE, 5.10pm: Westpac Lifesaver 3 reported on Twitter it was continuing to search with NSW Police "between the north and south headlands of Bermagui beach" for a sail boarder who had been reported as in trouble earlier.
EARLIER: THERE are reports a sailboarder is missing near Bermagui, with emergency services on their way to conduct a search.
Far South Coast director of lifesaving Andrew Edmunds said the man had been seen in trouble off the Blue Pool earlier by witnesses, but had not been heard from since.
Agencies including Marine Rescue, Bermagui Surf Life Saving Club and the Westpac rescue helicopter are reportedly on scene conducting a search in fading light.
Westpac Lifesaver 3 tweeted it was on the way to the area around 4.30pm Thursday.
