The wind is predicted to die down a little by this evening and the Cobargo P&C is hoping for a big turnout despite the chill.
Gates open at 5pm with a bonfire and fireworks to light the sky around 7.30pm.
Hot food and coffee will be on sale (I can hear the cheers now!) and there is plenty of children’s entertainment planned.
Entry will cost $25 for a family, $10 for adults and $5 for children with all proceeds to be used by the Cobargo P&C for the benefit of the school.
I’d suggest packing a blanket or three!
2. Nick Charles at Café Evolve
Nick Charles is known internationally as “Australia’s virtuoso of acoustic blues and roots”.
With years touring the world playing festivals and concerts, including 10 US tours and a dozen acclaimed albums, his show is a must for lovers of great guitar music and classic folk blues songwriting.
Charles has toured with artists of the calibre and diversity of BB King, Taj Mahal, John Hammond, Guy Clarke, Ralph McTell and Chris Smither, so take this opportunity to hear the dazzling string and a lifetime’s stories and songs from the world’s musical highways!
Nick Charles is playing at Café Evolve on Friday night. Tickets cost $10 per person at the door.
3. The Yearlings wander in to Candelo
“Acid-country” couple The Yearlings are dropping by Candelo this weekend as part of their All The Wandering tour.
Chris Parkinson and Robyn Chalken met in 2000 at the Tamworth Country Music Festival and their first album was released two years later.
For their concert at the Candelo Town Hall, audiences can expect an intimate setting, with stripped back versions of their new songs as well as some earlier pieces.
Doors open at 7.30pm.
4. Roosters Indigenous recognition
Special NAIDOC Week jerseys, Gulaga dancers, a Welcome to Country by Steven Luff and Warren Foster playing didgeridoo will be highlights at the rugby league this weekend.
The Bega Roosters take on the Eden Tigers with both clubs acknowledging Indigenous players and culture.
Play starts from 10.30am at the Bega Rec Ground on Sunday.
League-tag starts at noon, reserves from 1pm and the main event first grade kicks off at 2.30pm.
5. Tathra v Bermagui Aussie rules
There’s a lot riding on Saturday’s Sapphire Coast AFL round 13 game in Bermagui.
The Tathra Sea Eagles are looking to make their win record three in a row, while the Bermagui Breakers are seeking redemption after a “shock” loss to the Bega Bombers last week.
Ball-up on Dickinson Oval at 2.15pm.
In other SCAFL games, Narooma hosts Merimbula and Eden will play Bega.
