About 9am on Sunday, Batemans Bay Highway Patrol were conducting speed enforcement duties on the Princes Hwy at East Lynne as a part of “Operation State Highway 1”.
Officers stopped the driver of a Chrysler 300C sedan, after the car was detected allegedly travelling at 197kmh - that section of the Princes Hwy has a 100kmh speed limit.
The driver, a 28-year-old Sylvania man, was issued an infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45kmh and his licence was suspended on the spot.
Police also confiscated the car’s registration plates for three months.
The infringement notice carries a penalty of $2197.
Southern region traffic tactician, Inspector Greg Lynch, said the dangers of travelling at high speed were well documented.
“The risks of being involved in a crash that kills or injures someone increase the faster you travel.
“It is not just the risk to yourself, but to those travelling with your friends and family as well as other road users.”
