The club has nine new starters and the graders will be watching results carefully to confirm if they have placed them in the right grades.
In games, the upset of the week was when division three’s pre-competition favourite Tarra motors was smashed by MGM Smash Repairs 12-1.
Results for the rookie players were:
L J Hooker’s, Nikki Tarlinton had a tough match with cousin Abbey of Bega Commercial Cleaners, but won in four.
Another Tarlinton, Kelsea, from Austbrokers Southern lost a long five-setter to Neil Smith’s Aussie Home Loans player Vicki Marks.
David Boyle may prove too strong on his line with a three-set win over Kim Meyers.
Meanwhile, Millie Boon lost to the energetic Janice Northey and Tamika Johnson also lost to Catherine O’Reilly.
John Watkins looks like a good prospect for Helloworld after impressing against Mr Pizza’s Kevin Coady.
Erin Moore, daughter of previous ladies open championship winner, Donna, showed promise in her loss to Kirsty Umbers.
Angus Chaffer of Malcolm Slater P/L downed Eagle Embroidery’s Baden Edwards in three very close sets.
Player of the week goes to newcomer Steve Katona, who went from two-games down to beat Mark Lane.
Other significant matches saw the return of the Buttgereit’s resulting in wins to the youngsters Nathan and Jason.
Meanwhile, their father Alf went down in five.
Ben Hanscombe impressed as a B2 with a comfortable 3-0 win.
The match-up between his father Gerard of V&H Motors and uncle Tony saw Gerard take a win in three.
Dennis Curtis proved he still has plenty to offer, managing a five set win over young Jock Lee.
The other Lee, Jason, of Stowe Electrical also had a five-setter, but came out on top.
Mark Irvin’s of Pell Rixon and Hotondo Home’s Zip Summerell both went down after a break and may find it a task to get back to where they left off.
Steve Galeano was pleased to win his first match, after struggling through the last competition.
Players are reminded fees are due.
The club’s treasurer Cliff Pistorius will be at the courts again this week.
Penalties may apply for players who are un-financial after week three.
