THE Odd Couple and Grumpy Old Men came to mind when I watched Old School on the ABC on Friday night.

With two the stalwarts of the Australian film industry, Bryan Brown and Sam Neill (okay, I know O'Neill is a New Zealander, but he has appeared in countless Aussie films), as a crim and a former cop who get together to solve a crime, Old School works its magic a number of ways.
First and foremost the casting of Brown as the grizzled crim and Neill as the obsessed cop couldn't be bettered.
There's a great chemistry there.
Next it's the plot and the script.
At the start you see the armed robbery where Ted McCabe (Neill) is shot and Lennie Cahill (Brown) is caught and sent to jail.
Twelve years later Cahill, just out of jail and McCabe meet up at the murder of a former associate of Cahill's and agree to help each other find the mastermind behind the robbery.
Neill wants to know who shot him and Cahill wants his share of the takings.
There's a lovely scene where Neill enters his old pub warning Cahill it's grotty and he wouldn't be welcome there, only to find that pub has been gentrified and quite unrecognisable to the old lag.
There are some really great lines in Old School on seniors' cards etc and Brown and Neill don't have all the acting honours with Sarah Peirse right up there as Ted's wife.
I CAN'T understand why Channel Ten is doing so badly.
It's my favourite commercial station.
Admittedly I've never watched the morning program, the one that has just been axed, but then I've never watched any morning programs on any station.
Ten has some terrific programs.
On Sunday night there was the big wedding on Modern Family, the best comedy on television by far.
Then there's Offspring, which is a terrific Aussie show, followed by The Good Wife.
For those who follow The Good Wife, don’t miss Wednesday's episode, but I'm about to come up with a spoiler so you may not want to read on.
Anyhow on Wednesday one of the main cast members will be killed!
I know who it is, but I'm not telling.
Masterchef is on Ten, as was So You Think You Can Dance, both reality shows where I watch the lot.
Then there's 24, which is so addictive.
I'm also a NCIS fan, so five out of seven nights I'm watching Ten and please let it thrive.
