Four Winds Festival artistic director Paul Kildea wants to build on the solid community engagement established by Genevieve Lacey, who he described as “my illustrious predecessor”, as well as stamping the festival with his own personality and musical interests.
This year’s free concert, “At the Wharf”, will be a celebration of Bermagui and its gorgeous setting of inlet, ocean and mountains – and the prodigious musical talent of the young performers.
The concert will be a wonderful opportunity to hear world-class Australian musicians, many of whom call this corner of the world home.
You are invited to bring a rug, cushions (or a low chair) and a picnic to the Fishermen’s Wharf and settle in for four hours of glorious music.
Mr Kildea wants this concert to involve the community in “active listening” – especially to the young independent musicians who will be performing in this beautiful setting.
Many of these exceptional performers now live in Candelo – some grew up there and others have chosen to live there – including Kade Brown, the astonishing young jazz pianist who, at 18, has already recorded several albums and studied in New York at the Juillard Winter Jazz School; Melanie Horsnell, a singer-songwriter who lives in Candelo when she is not touring nationally or internationally; Heath Cullen, a guitarist-songwriter; and violinist Kate Burke.
Add in David Hewitt, renowned percussionist from Bega, and Michelle Nicolle, a multi-award winning jazz vocalist, who will sing with her quartet as the sun goes down and listeners will be treated to a vastly talented line-up.
Tickets for the festival can still be bought either online at www.fourwinds.com.au or by calling 6493 3414 during business hours.
You can also buy a ticket at the gate on either Saturday or Sunday.
The gates open at 7.30am and the program begins at 9.30am.
