The “Out of this World” theme is intended to promote Bermagui’s natural beauty, while at the same time acknowledging that even though the town is off the main highway, it is definitely worth the short detour to visit.
Saturday's program is full of great activities, talented performers and interesting and inspiring exhibitions and displays plus a huge array of food, handicraft and local produce stalls.
There is so much to see, do, taste and experience at this year’s Bermagui Seaside Fair, beginning with the Bermagui Blessing at the Fishermen's Wharf at 8am and ending with a bigger than ever fireworks display on the headland at 8.45pm.
As well as the blessing at 8am, the fair starts with a wonderful poet’s breakfast of bacon and egg rolls, cooked by members of the Wallaga Lake/Bermagui Men’s Shed.
Get there early for a seat as this event and the breakfast was incredibly popular last year.
On-stage entertainment from 2pm features the final performance of the Johnny Cash Tribute Show in the Bega Valley before it hits the road and a last-minute inclusion of talented young Merimbula musician Lochie Marsen.
Tony Jaggers will also be performing throughout the day on the Essential Energy stage.
The street parade starts at 10am with prizes for the best dressed themed participants, with categories including best on foot, best with animal, best on wheels and best overall entry.
The parade passes through the main street and onto Dickinson Oval.
Entry forms are available on www.bermaguiseasidefair.com
The Bega Band will lead the street parade procession and entertain until 11am at main stage.
Meanwhile the roar of the Ulysses and CRABS bikers will produce a noise of a different kind during the parade.
The Umbrellas of Bermagui will be a huge attraction this year with 15 three-metre hand-painted/decorated shade umbrellas being auctioned directly after the annual charity auction at noon.
Funds from the umbrella auction will be donated to the local skate park.
Oops the Amazing Clown will entertain the children at 11.15am and again around 2pm, while Questacon is back from Canberra under a big marquee on Dickinson Oval, presenting fair goers with walk-up technology workshops and hands-on activities using high and low-tech gadgetry.
The popular pet pageant competition is at 1pm comprising of waggiest tail, most adorable pet, owner/pet look alike, most clever trick, my buddy and I (for children under 12) and Hall of Fame - the star of the day - categories.
Also included on the program is the announcement of Bermagui’s Citizen of the Year, who will be named at 11am by Bega Valley Shire Mayor Bill Taylor.
If that’s not enough, there is also the carnival and free children’s entertainment under the big shade trees behind Dickinson Oval (where every small child wins a prize).
An art and crafts and photographic exhibition will be on display in the surf club.
An Art in Place themed exhibition is located upstairs at the Fishermen's Wharf and a model boat expo at the Bermagui Country Club.
On Horseshoe Bay Beach there will be a sandcastle competition judged at 1.45pm and a “Hole in One Golf Beach Bash” from 2-3pm where nearest the pin will win a $400 prize package from Bermagui Country Club.
Among the delicious selection of food stalls will be Devonshire teas, slices and coffee, and a place to rest weary feet, provided by Bermagui Chamber of Commerce and friends from 10am until 3pm outside the surf club.
The Seaside Fair barbecue will provide steak and sausage sandwiches and cold drinks from 10am until late on food alley behind the oval.
Everything will still go ahead as planned, no matter what the weather, so head to Bermagui on Saturday for some fun, fabulous food and entertainment galore.
