Candelo Books was filled with plenty of happy little girls on Monday as Ms Knapp signed books and gave a reading from her Ruby Red Shoes series.
Although only two books in to what Ms Knapp hopes will be a long series of sweet tales, Ruby Red Shoes and Ruby Red Shoes Goes to Paris have already developed a devoted following among young readers.
The books follow the whimsical adventures of white hare named Ruby Red Shoes who lives in a prettily painted caravan with her grandmother.
“Ruby is particularly partial to strawberry jam and peppermint tea, and also rather fond of red shoes,” Ms Knapp said.
A long line of girls clutching their Ruby Red Shoes books waited patiently for their turn with Ms Knapp, who had taken time out of her holiday to visit Candelo Books.
“I’m here visiting my friend Melanie Horsnell and her daughters Gypsy and Harmony,” she said.
“Melanie told me her daughters aren’t the only ones who the love the books here so I made contact with Candelo Book and it went from there.
“This store visit is a little impromptu, but it’s always nice to talk about Ruby and meet readers.”
Ms Knapp said Ruby Red Shoes fans will be happy to learn the little hare is about to embark on another adventure, this time to London.
“Ruby is off to visit the Queen, who will of course have big fluffy white ears,” she said.
After signing many books, Ms Knapp read a chapter from Ruby Red Shoes Goes to Paris to a delighted audience.
“It’s just beautiful to be here with all these avid readers and it’s my first time in this lovely part of the world,” she said.
“I hope Ruby and I can come back.”
